Throughout Kurt Russell’s performing retrospective for GQ, the famed actor gave his ideas on the ever-constant debate of which survivor is the Factor on the finish of John Carpenter’s The Factor. In the course of the shoot, what can be proven of the divisive ending was a matter of competition even for Carpenter himself, who now swears he’s the only one who knows who the Thing is—though director of images Dean Cundey has claimed the answer is in the eyes of the final two left standing.
So who does Russell suppose is secretly internet hosting an alien creature in that frosty scene: his character, MacReady, or Keith David’s Childs? Trying again on the much-loved sci-fi horror traditional, the star recalled, “John was by no means fairly glad with the final scene. His major factor was he didn’t need to take the viewers on a trip for 2 hours and convey [them] again to sq. one. Whenever you’re doing a film, you don’t know what you bought. You sort of on the whole know what you bought, however you don’t know precisely how that is gonna go collectively and what’s gonna come out of it. And naturally John did nearly on a regular basis since you perceive—you already know, he’s not like most guys.”

The great thing about the thriller is what Russell loves most. “I feel the viewers can determine it out. I feel that’s what makes The Factor nice, is you don’t know. What if it’s already occurred? Are you you? How would you already know?
